The following is a transcription of Dennis Prager first reading from a New York Times article describing the Occupy Wall Street protest and then commenting:
“In a widely distributed pamphlet, “Welcome to Liberty Plaza: Home of Occupy Wall Street,” participants were instructed where to find relief. “After you’ve dined,” it reads, “feel free to refresh yourself in the restrooms of neighboring businesses like Burger King and McDonald’s without feeling obligated to buy anything.”
This is worth its weight in gold. What that pamphlet said summarizes Leftism. You have no obligation — others do. A lifetime of immersion in my society’s issues can be summarized in that: Those who feel obligated to others versus those who feel others are obligated to them. Leftism speaks of altruism, but it is rooted in the deepest narcissistic impulses of the human being. You owe me, and screw you, you capitalist pig, if you don’t give it. That is the motto of the Left.
